I've been living with CEL for the past 13 months on my 94 C280 for the "secondary air injection system" code, which is the air pump. After reading about what the air pump does, I figured its not worth putting the money into replacing it. No performance issues at all. The only risk I think I'm running is not knowing if the CEL goes on for another reason while it is lit for the current fault.
