i would say that is normal for 49 deg F. if it was +10 deg F and the light went off after a 2-3 seconds only i would say that is not normal
as for engine oil you will get good value + performance from a dino 15/40 diesel rated oil like delo 400. you can easily get it in walmart in 1 gal jugs.
