The real story gets much deeper....

When Fonda visited Vietnam in '72, she was granted access to American POW camps. During a visit, she was passed secret messages from the POW's. A lot of messages were to their families, and some were encoded messages. The men had supposedly went thru great ordeal to keep these notes secret (we can only imagine), as they were made aware of Fonda's visit by secret channels a few weeks earlier.

Fonda, after secretly receiving the small folded up notes thru handshakes with the POW's, immediately took them over to the North-Vietnamese commander and handed them over.

The end result was; after her departure, a bunch of those guys were executed with only a couple of survivors to tell the story.
