I see you recommended using Hylomar on the gasket surfaces. MB instructions say to not put any sealant except on the corners. Is the jury still out on this? I used silicone grease lubricant because I don't believe in installing (sliding) seals in the dry condition. Otherwise, I used nothing else on the seal when I did my engine.
There must be a reason MB decided to use a gasket instead of RTV sealant. Maybe they couldn't get away from the sliding action needed to install the upper timing cover... or maybe they needed the surfaces to move because of thermal cycling.
