I got my tumbler out with a straightened paper clip. Stuck the paper clip in the hole and then that hardened steel tumbler cover would turn.

By the way, I used a cheap hand sander to get the stuck key to turn; I popped out the instrument cluster so I could get the hand sander behind the steering wheel and resting on the lock assbly.

This was on a 1984 300D 123 Euro model
