I have an 87 300SDL with the Becker 780 radio and an FM modulated CD changer. I'm not concerned with ear blasting volume or thumping bass, but simply a better, more defined sounding sound system when played at a moderate level. I primarily listen to either soft rock or classical.
I'd like to keep the stock radio, so I suppose the speakers are what need to be upgraded. I've checked with 2 local installers and Crutchfield, but they have not been all that helpful in finding good replacements.
The speakers just don't have very good sound. I am hoping someone with more experience than myself can provide insight as to what brand/model/size speakers to purchase for front and back. Cost isn't really an issue, but would like to keep them under $500 or so for the set of 4.
Sad, but true, the stock Premium Audio sound system in my VW TDI rocks in comparison. This is the biggest downside I have with my MB.
