I think your much better off just having the chip repaired.
Who knows, you get a new windshield and a few days latter a new chip.

But the real issue with replacing a winshield is potential scratching of A-pillar and leakage issues.

With a high end car like a CL be prudent with the shop you use and don't let them talk you into a new windshield.

Once the chip is filled, at certain angles you can usually detect a discoloration or a slight difference of diffraction - but no big deal and usually not noticeable when driving.
