The glow plug light coming on alone is the normal "warning" behavior. Most times my problem did not cause the CEL light to come on in mine. Originally, I had to fight the dealer because they said "No Code = No Problem".

I had to read the manual to describe the behavior of the glow plug light and how problems with the glow plug system were indicated through the light coming on.

Sounds like more than one E300 had the problem... Outside of that it was a great running car...
