silicone + metal = rust. You can get the correct windshield gasket from the stealership- one item worth the $. If your windshield is fine, a mobile glass guy should be able to come to you and replace the gasket in under an hour. Shouldn't cost too much. Much cheaper than repairing rust later.

I've got the same exact thing right now, just looking for a deal on a windshield because mine is original and pitted and has one dime size chip. Might as well replace it while it is out.

Also, if you're going to have it replaced, you can cut the old windshield out and treat any rusted metal spots you find- someone wrote about this in a thread recently...
