My 95 SL 320 also shifts hard, but only when cold. It seems to wait to shift out of 2nd gear until it warms up, which is consistent with Tecqboy's post. I have only put 1,000 miles on it since I have owned it - and this is the only problem I have noticed. I will take it in next month for the 67,500 mile service and ask the dealer what they think about this.
