Thanks for all of the information. I was aware of the kits with the suction line pressure gauge and have heard of charging the system until you get a clear sight glass, but before I did anything, I thought I would pursue further and get an opinion more knowledgeable than my own.

Larry, I was unaware that these recharge kits had the nickname of "suicide kits." I will definitely remember that one! Since I do not have access to a set of high/low pressure gauges, I would rather have a trained technician take care of this and pay him a few bucks instead of paying big bucks if I try to do it myself and end up overcharging the system and damaging a component. Since it is still cooling well today (it is 94 F) I think I will leave things well enough alone until I hear the compressor cycling on the low pressure switch or it is not pulling the cabin temperature down quickly enough. Like they say, "If it's not broke, don't fix it." or the corollary to that "If it's not broke, it hasn't been fixed enough!"

One thing I must say though is that it is quite amazing that no charge has been needed since the system was recharged in 1999 when the sight glass cracked. The hoses, connectors and compressor for this vehicle must be very good.
