Thanks for your response! Yes I just purchased the car. It has been that way since I purchased it. It is consistant no jumping or variations. I'm baffeled. My mechanic says it's the speedo, an electrical problem. If so I'll bite the bullet but I damn sure want to make sure. Thanks Nick

If it jumps straight to 50 from start and continues on upwards without increasing the difference, you can probably rule out a km/mph mismatch.
Don't know what type of speedo you have but my first thought would be to try and adjust the needle on the spindle, maybe it's out of position.
(of course, if it is out of position, I'd be curious as to how it happened and would be equally curious as to what else went on in the pod while it was moved... low mileage, one careful owner anyone?)
