That's exactly what I did. --
With regards to these guys make it seem like a mystery --I believe everybody deserves to make a good living BUT as an example - when I recently got the front brake pads replaced at a local automotive chain - I watched and was speaking with the mechanic while he slipped them on in much less then half hour. At the service counter they presented me with a bill for $ 89 for the aftermarket pads plus $265 for labour. When I questioned the service rep. he started with the mystery of how complicated the job is and the that the mechanic had to lubricate, adjust, calibrate etc.- I was wearing a suit and tie at the time and he was clearly assuming I knew nothing about repairs - I asked to speak to his boss and got the same story - I told them that obviously they were nice guys but knew nothing about cars and that they were more suited for a job at a clothing store. Then of course the store manager was called who called the mechanic who backed up my story and the bill was adjusted down to one-hour labour. WOW I wonder how many little old ladies, young woman, and technically challenged persons are taken advantage each and every day by these smoke and mirror MYSTERY explanations. I also would like to make it crystal clear that I am not blaming the Mechanics but the fault lies with the greediness (dishonesty?) of the service centres.
