88 560sl ignition cutoff for unknown reason
My 88 560SL has been having ignition cutoff problem for the last few years. The key fits in the ignition switch fine, it turns, locks, unlocks, etc without any problem. I do notice that the ignition switch feels little loose. I would start the car and drive normally and every now and then the car's ignition cuts out while I am driving with all warning lights lighting up (highway at 60 mph or locally at 25 mph). I stop the car by pulling the car to the side of the road, put the gear in park and recrank. The car restarts with little effort ( starter turns and everything feels normal ). Could this be a loose ignition wire problem? This problem is unnerving and potentially very dangerous as my car can stall anywhere, anytime. Fortunately it does not happen very often but I would like to get to the bottom of the problem. Should I change the ignition switch and all related components to be on the safe side? Thanks in advance for your expert advice.
