My 88 560SL has been having ignition cutoff problem for the last few years. The key fits in the ignition switch fine, it turns, locks, unlocks, etc without any problem. I do notice that the ignition switch feels little loose. I would start the car and drive normally and every now and then the car's ignition cuts out while I am driving with all warning lights lighting up (highway at 60 mph or locally at 25 mph). I stop the car by pulling the car to the side of the road, put the gear in park and recrank. The car restarts with little effort ( starter turns and everything feels normal ). Could this be a loose ignition wire problem? This problem is unnerving and potentially very dangerous as my car can stall anywhere, anytime. Fortunately it does not happen very often but I would like to get to the bottom of the problem. Should I change the ignition switch and all related components to be on the safe side?
