what's the accepted method of getting manual transmission fluid into an '81 240D, 716.21 tranny?

from underneath the car, i put the bottle above the filler hole, ran a plastic tube down, and started a syphon. it's pretty slow going because the fluid is so thick, and the tube rather narrow. also it was a *****. is there a better way?
