I use the jack pads. When I'm only jacking up one side of the rear, I'll jack up the car (with a couple 2x4s as a buffer) just forward of the pads on the frame rail, underneath the door, and rest the car on stands at the pad.
Haven't quite figured out how to jack up the rear all at once. Some people like to use the differential, but I can't imagine that the differential mounts were designed to carry 1/2 the weight of the car...
