I usually don't put a pin in there to fit the belt, I have never even heard of this. What I do is place the belt around all the accessory pulleys leaving the last bit to fit over the tensioner, pull the tensioner in with your ratchet and slip the belt over it. Make sure the belt is on the outside of the ratchet though, closest to the outside of the tensioner. It is really easy. Good luck.
