I drink green tea nearly everyday. The wife makes it from loose leaf green tea, and makes in a small clay Japanese pot. It does not taste like wet cardboard, more like dirt with a popcorn-like after taste. I actually like the taste, though.

There is a reason why it makes your breath smell good, but I don't remember exactly why.

I can't imagine someone recommending it as a sleep-aid as green tea contains caffeine.
