I would pop the hood and sniff around for fuel. Fuel lines, fuel distributor, etc. on drivers side under the hood.
At the back of the car is the fuel filter/pump - near passenegr side real wheel close to tank. Looking at things from the back, there's a rubber line that exits the fuel filter. This things gets hard as a rock over time. Check this area for leaks as well.
Then of course, there's the lines from the back of car up to the front.
I would first check out the "gas smell" and worry about the other issues after that gets solved.
