You can leave it in " W " mode.
It just starts in second gear & shifts much sooner ( to avoid wheelspin in the winter ).
The transmission is " adaptive ", i.e. if you are an "agressive " driver, it will learn your habits ( higher shiftpoints ) fairly quickly.
