One thing about a filter that you can reuse is the cost issue, a K&N, Mean Green, etc can pay for themselves pretty quick. OE filters aren't cheap.
In the air housing there appears to be sufficient space for a Prefilter or a foam wrap to catch more particles. I use one on the FIPK that's on my Z71, works quite well to keep larger matter from the filter.
I do have a question, on the size of the fine sand that enters... how large is this in terms of micron?
