*Most* sotck air intakes flow enough for the engine. The main reason for such long and restrictive looking ducting on stock setups is to dampen the intake soundwaves. Pulling them off usually does little more than increase engine noise. Pull the u-tube off the turbo and run it for a few seconds, right away you will hear what the UFO over the turbo does.
