I seem to remember that the only problem he faced was that the rev counter and speedo were differently calibrated on his diesel-engined car. This may not be a problem for your C280. The only other problem I would see is that the instrument cluster does all kinds of mysterious work other than tell you how fast you're going. This may not work properly with the AMG version.
You will certainly be able to fit the instrument cluster with the ivory-coloured dials from the European "Sport" cars. (There are four lines in Europe, Classic, Esprit, Elegance and Sport -- naff, eh?) I think these are more attractive than the mid-grey AMG dials.
