Sounds like in your re-assembly of the wires in the ignition lock housing that somehow things got a bit forked-up... might want to recheck your work...

In my experience > gauges "jumping around" has something to do with erratic electrical grounds or over-voltage from the voltage regulator.. a temp sender unit going south may also be the culprit
