You must be going to a mythical "honest dealership". The tensioner is a $60 part at a parts store (= $150 + at the dealer). Toss in some genuine "MB Dealer Labor" and I believe you came away from that one relatively unscathed.

I think roger 129 has left out a lot of infomation or is confused about which "shaft" needs replacing - I've not heard of a thrown or jumped chain ruining the crank.

But then again, I get surprised by my ignorance everyday...
