Under the car now..300D to 300SD Transmission swap issue

Hi all...

I am trying to swap a 84/85 300D Trans into a 83 300SD.

As I have read in past posts, the tail housing is the only difference in the transmission and that the pickup needs to be changed.

In the transmission from the 300D, on the right side of transmission rear section (the case side to which the tail housing bolts), I see an additional hole in the case that does not exist in my 300SD. It looks like it might feed or be fed fluid from (what I think goes in there as it fell into my hands when removing tail housing) a plastic angled tube with a o-ring. My guess is it might be to feed fluid to the gear for the Speedo?

1. What if anything is done with the opening in the swap?

2. I am not clear on what the pickup is and therefore what to change.

Thank you
Don
