I have found a reference to an MB service advisory to dealers on July 1993 telling dealers to check and erase DTC codes before sending Soft top control units back under warranty, as well tech service bulletin indicating that a rapid "on" and "off" opreation of the ignition switch could cause th etop to not operate.

The codes that will suspend operation of a soft top on the R129 are 21, 22, 26, and 30. MB suggested the following procedure before a dealer was to return unit:

1. Recall DTC memory
2. Erase DTC memory
3. Drive vevhile for more than 10 seconds
4. Open and close top
5. Recal DTC memory again

The codes can be erased, the top will operate.

The ignition switch codes are 3 or 49. MB advises to erase codes.

So if I can recall and erase the codes I may get my top operating again.
I just pulled codes 17,20,29, & 30 from my 1991 300SL could someone chime in and decode for me.
