To release the hardtop you must pull back on the "top" switch with-in 10 seconds of turning on the ignition switch!

IF that doesn't work YOU should read owners manual on "emergency" operation of the soft-top. THERE should be a special tool to release the top at the front & at the rear (1 tool).
