First of all, it would not be $5K over here. Even if you built it over there, by the time it got here, it would be over $7K.
Then you need to add all the required emission controls, 5 mph bumpers, seat belts, air bags, safety glass, etc. for it to meet U.S. regulations. The engine probably had no computer controls, so, you wouldn't be able to meet current emission controls without fitting it with some type of fuel injection.
By the time you did all of that, the vehicle would cost well over $10K.
Still interested?
It probably has an engine with less horsepower than a 240D with a top speed of probably 60 mph or so. It would be considered borderline unsafe on the typical American highway. The engine would be way overtaxed to keep up with our speeds here.
Naturally, it has no amenities whatsoever, including a/c, power steering, power brakes. In fact, it might even have drums on all four wheels.
Still think you would buy such a vehicle? It makes a Hyundai look like a Cadillac. Many people on this forum, who are supposedly knowledgeable about vehicles, look down at a Hyundai and would never consider purchasing one, despite the obvious price advantages. So, you still think threre would be a market for such a vehicle over here?
There are few people who purchase a vehicle without any influence, whatsoever, from their family and peers. There are even fewer people who will ignore any negative comments made about a vehicle by their family and peers.
So, I'm sorry to tell you, that the market for such a vehicle might be limited to
one person.
