1990 300D

Odometer stopped working at 179K. Pulled the speedo and saw that the shaft with the metal gear running through the total odo numbers was dsiplaced out enough so that the pinion gear wasn't engaging it. Pushed the shaft back in (appx 2-3 mm) to reengage the gear and the odometer worked fine for about 50 miles, then stopped again. Pretty sure the shaft has worked back out.

Anybody have similar experiences that could share a fix that will work.
