Tom, there are at least 10 good ideas. But, only one of them will be applicable to your vehicle. That's where troubleshooting comes in. It's not all that difficult to work through it and determine what the situation is. This is especially valuable with the electrical system, because many mechanics don't have a clue how to approach it.

I would have thought that you would take a more diligent engineering approach rather than the rather hopeless shotgun approach.

Nobody with any knowledge of these systems would ever tell you to "just shoot some freon into it and everything will be cool". You know better than that.
