All fixed and works great.

Thanks for the disassembly instructions! It turns out the failure was of a small piece of (cheap) metal that had bent, allowing the push/pull cable to pop out of the slot it fits in and get in the way of the sliders.
After having the entire mechanism out and apart, I can say this to all Skyview owners - LUBE THE ROOF REGULARLY!!!!! My failure was entirely due to lack of lubrication causing too high of a load on the mechanism (push/pull cable.) This is likely also the cause of the broken slider problem, although mine were fine.
If I had to do it again, I would not have removed the headliner entirely. If just the back part (aft of the C pillars) was dropped, I would have been able to remove the vinyl cover (5 clips per panel) and the hard panels themselves (4 bolts per panel) that I needed for access to the bent metal part and the pooched-out cable. If it had been the sliders, maybe the whole thing would have needed to come out, I don't know. It would also depend on how far open the roof was when it failed.
The real pain of removing it (the roof mechanism) is the removal of the headliner, and the sheer weight of the roof itself once it is loose. The headliner was not hard, just time consuming.

***TIP for DIYers*** For reinstall, I bought 4 long pieces of all thread, screwed them into the overhead, lifted the mechanism up (with help) and put a nut on each 'stud'. This held the mechanism up leaving me free to put on the sealant (messy stuff) and then pull it up the rest of the way with the nuts on the all thread, until I could get the normal short bolts started. This way there was no handling of the heavy, awkward mechanism with the black sealant goo on it (always bad thing around the interior of a car.)
