As I view the MB Service Manual Chasis and Body Series 123, Volume 2, it describes the piece behind the interior latch as the "liner". This is removed by prying from the forward end. That is the end away from the arm rest/handle. Once that pops off there should be a screw within the exposed recess. After removal of that screw you should be able to remove the top grip (arm rest/handle) screw. From there you are supposed to remove the two arm rest screws found along the bottom portion of the arm rest. Does this help or are you beyond this point?
