The M102 motor has an idle control valve located down underneath the air filter. Most likely culprit. Always go new - second hand ones normally give trouble. Im assuming this is the motor you have?

I believe a '93 E200 would have the M111. Whilst we did not get the E200 in Australia, by 1993 the 4-cylinder W124 models (E220) sold here were using the M111. I think all M102 W124 models were badged as 200E and 230E and even early M111 were badged as 200E and 220E.
Whilst I have not heard of it being a problem on the 4 cylinder models, I wonder if this could be a wiring harness issue? A '93 falls in the period where other models were affected with bad engine harnesses.
