Actually you have a ' manual ' system anyway... if you leave your key in the glow position ( and the glow plugs are working ) then they will continue to heat for approximately 45 seconds after the glow plug dash light goes off...
A simple on off switch just cuts out some of the things which have the capability of failing just when you need them to work...
