Ya know, it's sort of compassion meets commerce found exclusively at Walt-Mart. What I mean by that is that I'm sure that the first ones...whatever the ribbon was supposed to bring attention to...were put on...whther on cars or lapels...by people who really believed in the cause. Then someone like Sam Walton comes along and says: "Hells Belles, what's wrong with giving the people what they want and making a little more off of it. Isn't that the American Way?" Of course, since ol' Sam's co is a public company, profit margin has to be increased quarter over quarter, so making the product...as the ribbons eventually are called..is outsourced to China. And that's the way it is, to quote old Walter Cronkite. It's not good. It's not bad. It's not about free speech. It just kind of is. The unfortunate part is that the cause gets lost in the process or diluted at best. BTW: Those faded ribbons...well, they're just well intentioned consumers with a 28% APR $5,000+ credit card debt.
