I haven't seen FSTV, but given the increasing segmentization of the "news", with Faux leaning heavily to the right and the "others" leaning nowhere or center-right, I can't help but see a lone outpost of leftish-themed information as a good and healthy entry into the market. I really admire many of their board members and wish them all the best in this endeavor.
My dad and his partner are currently sailing around the Caribbean and have been living in Cartagena Colombia for a couple months. His partner sez the only US "news" available down there is Faux and it really pisses her off to no end, since it just reinforces all the negative perceptions South Americans have regarding NA gringos. Theres a brand new information outlet in SA with a decidedly Latin American perspective on the news called Telesur , which should really offer the continent a counterbalance to the drivel we export from both the networks and State Dept. |
I lived in Cartegena in the 1950's. We lived just beneath San Felipe, in view of La Popa, a neighborhood called Manga. There was a little restaurant near there, Club de Pesca that we frequented. About once a week we'd hear the riverboat's steam whistle as it came into the harbor from up river. It was a stern paddle wheeler. The city still had carriages for hire rather than taxi cabs. Lovely place, congenial people. We didn't have TV.
