I'd prefer a vacuum plated, injection molded one with an elegant and fragile transition where the star hoop meets the base. This could be extremely attractive and similar to the original, yet breaks easily when pulled on. It could be so inexpensive (like $1-2) that you could keep a couple spares in the glovebox. When some moron pulls off the star, it breaks in their hand and they get a worthless, broken piece of plastic for their efforts. When you get back to your car you notice the broken piece, pop on another shiny, fresh one and drive off.
