He is drawing a parallel, and more importantly, reminding us that $big business$ controls the gov't and the consequences of greed and ignorance will be seen in our lifetime.

and as for the final paragraph, its obviously a joke on pat robertson and his ilk, but it has a two pronged purpose... to make fun of the man, and by reminding us of his previous foolish statments, it keeps his scary/laughable most recent statements in the forefront of the public's mind.
