There's been a lot of talk about helping the victims of Katrina, well, the City of Houston is doing what it can to help. The Harris County Sports Authority (I think that's what the organization is called) and the Red Cross have utilized the Houston Astrodome for another purpose. Commonly called the 8th wonder of the world, the 40 year old world's first domed stadium has all events cleared through December and will house refugees from the Superdome, it's going to take 2 days and almost 700 buses to get them all here, in fact, the first bus arrived earlier tonight. The Houston Independent School District is letting children from affected areas of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama attend HISD elementary schools for a month without shot records. Local colleges are waiving certain fees to let students continue their education away from home. Local sports events like the Houston Comets games, and the TSU vs. PV Labor Day Classic football game will be able to be seen for free by refugees too. There's free admission to museums, restaurants are offering discounts, there are even telethons being aired locally to raise money to help the victims. I'm sure there's lots of other stuff going on to help to that I've forgotten, but we're trying to do our part. We've got Louisiana license plates and even a few NO taxicabs in town. They're going to be here for quite a while, so we've got to do our part.
