You will lose settings despite your best efforts. But fear not.

If you have a recent service invoice from the dealership, it will have the radio codes printed on the header info, used by the service tech to reset the codes when servicing your vehicle. Techs will disconnect the battery as an added precaution when properly servicing your car.

Some vehicles do require addition resynch'ing procedures. My SL required doing so with the softtop operation, and the ML required the BAS/ESP function reset by turning the steering lock-to-lock.

Like previously mentioned, the owner's manual will detail any procedures required...
