Not sure why speedo would need to be changed. Rolling diameter of rear tires is unchanged.

I would think that low-end torque would really suffer. Was this your experience?
Is there a way to implement 1st gear start? My car starts in 2nd gear unless you stomp on it (or downshift manually).
