Does something else make more sense?

Hi Maroon..

Something similar happened in 96 with the flooding of the Mississippi A female governor
demanded that comfort money be handed out to citizens who were deprived of their residences.
The amount was smaller, (about $100 to $300 but the intent was the same.

Considering that many of the evacuated were single mothers on welfare, and their checks were
likely not going to be cashed this month, the idea of a debit card is a good one.
Women with babies and young children are not likely to be very good at cleaning up a
storm damaged street unless they are able to drive front-end-loaders or use chain saws.

These people have little left... At least this will give them some self-respect and maybe a glimmer of hope. it will also boost the economy of wherever they happen to spend the money.

I would be upset if the looters were also given the $2K, but that does not seem too likely

I am waiting for some media outlet to suggest that the money would have been better spent on
social workers who would counsel these poor souls in their time of need...
