I think the debit cards combined with some form of identification system are an awesome idea. I think the UN should use this as well. People are pretty good at deciding what they want/need. Give them the opportunity to buy what they need and private industry will get what they want to them much faster/efficiently. No I don't think they should have to work for the 2 grand. I think they should electronically add an $1K extra per adult per month for a month or so. Just allowing them to buy a damn bus/plane ticket and move to a better area with temporary subsistance money will provide these people with a better life and save much more than having them cooped up and dependent on the government.
