You're driving a 2000 Mercedes and you try to save a few bucks bringing in your own parts you probably got from some obscure source to a shop that is not professional enough to do the job completely or not do it at all. Sorry, but I think you deserve the hastle and frustration you are experiencing. You've pushed one of my buttons. You want to flash around town in a cool roadster, but you don't want to pay the price. You are slapping a mechanic in the face when you ask him to work for less than he is due. It is an old saying, but it still holds true: you would never go to a nice restaurant and order salad and vegetables and hand the waiter a steak you brought to save some money so why do it to a shop. I've been on this site for along time and have offered advice to many people who enjoy working on their own car or want a second opinion about their mechanics recommendation, but I'm sorry, I have no advice for you.
