Had the same problem when i bought my CD player ( used ).
Took it out, dropped it off at my friendly M-B dealer, who sent it to his " regular audio man ".
Two weeks & $ 200.00 bucks later it worked just fine.
Apparently it was " mishandled " in transit from the seller to me.
