Acceleration is sure a funny thing . I installed a mildly modified 454 Chevy engine in a 2wd Chevy Blazer, it is used
mainly as a work truck to pull a heavy trailer, but truth be told it is also a toy as I'm doing a lot of work in getting the body extra straight before I paint it and am building an aluminum dash etc.. I have the top off and bumpers removed so it is quiet light. Could not resist a little spin in it the other day. As we live in a remote rural area with very little traffic (maybe a car every half hour on our road) I did a couple of impromptu quarter mile runs.
Dejavu sixties ,complete with smoking tires , sounds of the hood being sucked into the Edelbrock carb as the secondaries open. gas gauge moving at about the same rate as the heat gauge but in opposite directions.
An hour later I take my 81 SD to the post office and accelerate on the same stretch of road . Perhaps having reached my sixth decade has changed me somehow ,but the smooth push of those five cylinders and the turbo coming on as the tach climbs is far more satisfying than my fish tailing Blazer. Perhaps I'll take old smokie Pearl my 240 D up on the gravel tomorrow where theres only one car every four hours.
