Just an update. I just rolled 30k miles in just under a year of ownership on my E320CDI. The 30k miles are almost strictly homemade B100. The car now has 160k on the odometer.

Mods to the car:
Bully Dog "rapid power" chip

Repairs to the car:
Pads and rotors at all 4 corners
Freed-up stuck caliper slide bolt on pass. front.
Replaced stuck-open thermostat

Maint to the car:
Changed oil every 13k with Rotella T6 5W40
Hastings LF 593 oil filter at each oil change
Replace fuel filter at 13k and 30k


During cold winter months I ran about 5% HHO blended with the B100 to prevent gelling. Early spring I ended up purchasing 2 tanks of pump diesel because I ran out of B100. Otherwise this car has only seen B100 during my ownership. Fuel mileage from both car computer and scangauge report about 30mpg average highway/city combined.

The headlights were frosted over when I purchased it, and I used to 3M kit to restore them. I don't like the fact that the car has no dipstick (you check the oil from the cockpit). I heard horror stories about not being able to work on the brakes because of the SBC braking system, but I had no problem....just a matter of disabling the system while you're working on it.

All in all I am in love with this car. 235hp on $0.75/gal fuel and modern day MB luxury says it all.

'05 and '06 had a funky new braking system. I forget what SBC stands for. It does a "self test" by actuating all the calipers whenever a door is opened or key turned. Dangerous if you have the caliper off when it decides to do a self test. Just takes unplugging the connector at the ABS module to disable it, and reconnecting when the brake job is done.

They changed to a different system on later years. Don't know much about that.
