W126: How to remove speaker covers
How does one remove the speaker covers in the front door on an 88 420SEL? How about the rear deck covers? I dont want to break anything I can't get this weekend when I replace the speakers.
Also, anybody replace the fader control with a better crossover? What did you use? |

If you don't have the power recline feature in the rear, pull the rear deck speaker grills forward. They'll either come loose or break because they're so brittle from baking for all these years. If you have the power recline feature you have to 'influence' the angle section cover bar to give clearance or take it off which might require removing the rear seat.

There's a phillips head screw (I think only one) underneath the grill on the front door speakers. Once you remove that I think they come right off; no clips if I recall correctly.
I never got around to replacing the rear speakers though (left 'em unhooked), but if you're replacing your head unit you'll have fader control through it so you can just bypass the stock fader. |
