W202 and Subwoofer
I just had a reputable shop install my 15inch subwoofer with amp tapped into the stock system of my W202 Kompressor sedan.
Did a good job....but being a 15 inch subwoofer its meant for really low frequencies and the rear shelf non bose speakers in my car are somehow set to a special frequency which the sub doesnt match to....meaning in certain songs I play, it sounds like there is no sub...but if there is a low "boom" part it kicks in. Can this be solved swapping to a 12 inch sub or 2 10 inch? They pick up more higher bass.

202 sub
Marko, Iam no expert but I think your problem is your head unit. I have a 1999 c230k and my son drove the car for a while and he put 2 15's in,and blew the rear window out of the car, then he went to 1 15 and it was still too much, they were Image Dynamics sub's, and I think the amp was 1000watt jbl.and pioneer mp840 head unit. I now have a Image Dynamic 12', with a 300watt zapco amp and it hits hard. I do not think that your stock head has the adjustablity for what you need,or something not hooked up right. check the leads at the amp and sub and make sure they are tight. Good luck.Ross

You don't mention how the crossover is set for the system. If it is on the amp you might want to set it at different frequencies to see if that cures your problem. The problem eminates from the fact that if it is set really low some program material just doesn't have imformation at that frequency. It says to me that it is working right but you might get better results if you set the crossover point a little higher and turn the gains down on the amp so they are a little more subtle. That is a fairly common problem when using a stock system. The issue is that you have a hole in the frequency response at 100hz-200hz and the subsequent result is what you experience.

Connections seem fine. I played with the settings to no avail. I beleive its the hz that the rear stock speakers are set to....they are no full range speakers..they are woofers (with not much bass).
A 12 inch I might get can go from 22hz to 1800hz while this 15 inch can do 24hx to 240hz and I beleive the headunit or the connection to those speakers are not giving it much signal in that range. The 12 inch would pick those up. My freind in his C220 had the stock system hooked up with 2 12s....they were as they were supposed to.
